Introduction to the Assessment and Treatment
for Skin-Picking and Hair-Pulling Disorders
Presented by Dr. Trevor Schraufnagel
Description:
This webinar will focus on describing evidence-based methods for assessing and treating body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), which are categorized as Obsessive Compulsive and Related Disorders in DSM-5. Participants will learn the important domains to behaviorally assess and will learn how these assessments will inform treatment. The primary treatment, Habit Reversal Training will be introduced and stimulus control for BFRBs will also be briefly touched on. Finally, Dr. Schraufnagel will also highlight a few of the primary obstacles to successful treatment and will offer suggestions for how to circumvent or address these common challenges.
Learning objectives:
1. Identify the five primary domains that are important areas to assess as they relate to a person's picking or pulling
2. Identify the two broad categories of picking or pulling and the behavioral function of each
3. Be able to define Habit Reversal Training and understand the basic mechanism by which this intervention decreases the execution of a given BFRB
Course meets the qualifications for 1 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs by CAMFT-approved Continuing Education. Provider number: 129308
